Skindred, 2025

Skindred have announced a new tour that will see them play “outside of just the major UK cities”. Check out the details below.

The new run of live shows, dubbed ‘The Detour’, are set to kick off this autumn, and will see the Welsh reggae-rock legends visit venues outside of major cities.

Shows kick off at the University Student Union in Keele on October 16, before making stops at Tenby’s De Valence Pavilion and Swansea’s Patti Pavilion over the following two nights.

Other stops include shows in Buckley, Frome, Worthing, Warrington and Wolverhampton throughout the month, before dates continue in November in Middlesborough, Wakefield, Torquay, Bournemouth and Folkestone.

“We as a band are extremely conscientious about venturing outside of just the major UK cities to spread the Skindred sound,” drummer Arya Goggin said. “This October the ‘Detour’ is our attempt to do just that.”

“As a band we love to play live, but there are so many amazing towns and cities with fantastic venues across the country that get forgotten and need to be supported,” he added. “That’s where our ‘Detour’ comes in! We can’t wait to head back out across the UK this October on our ‘Detour.’ See you there!”

Recently, 2023 also saw them become unlikely TikTok stars when their song ‘Nobody’ sparked a new dance trend, and make a debut appearance on Later… With Jools Holland

The decision to play outside of major UK cities on their upcoming tour comes following increasing warnings that venues around the country are being forced to close and that the entire UK grassroots scene is on the brink of “complete collapse” without government intervention.

Speaking to NME last November, Music Venue Trust CEO Mark Davyd outlined how the cost of touring has forced bands to prioritise gigs in bigger cities – meaning that venues in other areas are increasingly at risk.

“Bands cannot afford to pick up the cost of touring, venues cannot afford to turn the fucking lights on… artists want to be out on the road and getting these audiences, but this touring sector is as far as it can go without completely toppling over,” he said.

“There are now 12 places on the primary and secondary touring circuit, and everyone else is absolutely scrambling for that one extra show that didn’t go to one of those places.”

In a bid to save grassroots venues, there have been significant efforts laid out which could make 2025 vital for securing the UK’s live music sector. The Labour government, for example, has started to back the call for a levy on tickets to gigs at arena level and above. This would mean that the arenas and stadiums around the country would adopt a ‘Premier League model’ and pay back into the ecosystem to keep the talent pipeline flowing.
