Shirena Parker shares on her creative tastes, music influences and new single “Heartbreak Unintended”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Hi I’m Shirena Parker and I currently live on the west coast.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Piano early on – like 5 or 6 years old. Then started singing to help me understand how to processing the world.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
It’s titled “Heartbreak Unintended” just because for me it was important to highlight that a lot of pain comes from pain. As hard as it can be a lot of the time it can be unintentional and is just repeated patterns that we can’t seem to break. We’re all the same at the end of the day it was important for me to highlight the common lines of pain we all have.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
If my music only fit into a genre! Ha ha it’s been a struggle for sure I’ve had it categorized anywhere from alternative hip-hop to pop to Indie. I’ll let you decide 😉 The uniqueness comes from finally voicing in the music industry the struggles refugees and immigrants face. It’s real out here!
Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to
collaborate with in the future?
Derez DeShon, Rod Wave, Saint Jhn,
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I was the first from my country (Iraq) to be featured in Times Square last June. That was an unreal moment for sure…
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work? What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Balance is tough but the gratitude for the art itself makes it worth the crazy hours. Advice? Don’t give up.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Embrace who you are! We’re all connected to each other & when we heal ourselves, the world heals.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Starting my first FULL album! 13 songs and hopefully a couple videos… I’m stoked.
