RI¢H shares on his band’s upcoming debut album, favorite music influences and more

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Hi, I’m Richard Evans, front man of RI¢H. RI¢H is based in San Antonio, Tx and also includes Kristopher Robin on Drums and Brendon Yeich on Bass.
What made you want to become an artist and make music?
We’ve been compelled to make music for personal .. to exercise personal demons
Can you tell us about your new music (single/ EP/ Album)? And what’s the story behind it?
Our first single “Bumps in the road” is a song about picking up the pieces of a broken heart and trying to rebuild it, ultimately leaving it even more Like a broken dish glued back together, it is now even easier to break again with even the slightest touch. In reality you would throw that dish away and replace it, but one cannot replace one’s own heart.
How would you describe your music style? And what’s your creative process when you write new music?
Our musical style I would best describe as electro soul. Upbeat dance rhythms combined with pulsing synths, aggressive bass and beautiful melodies juxtaposing the darkness of our lyrics.
Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a music artist.
My favorite part of being a music artist is the real time interaction between performer and In other art forms such as filmmaking or painting, those artists have to wait till the work is done before it is appreciated. With music an artist can take their audience on a journey at the same time the performer is going on said journey.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Our musical influences range from hip hop to electronic to metal.
Specific artists who have influenced our sound are The Midnight, M83, Jackboys, Post Malone, Kanye West, Dr. Dre and Drake. An artist I have a lot of respect for and would love to work with is RMR.
How do you balance your music with other activities like work/ hobbies?
Balancing creating music with work, hobbies, and social life can be difficult.
However over the years we have fused those aspects together, we socialize with each other, we work with each other and use all our hobbies and interests to further enhance our art.
Our daily lives fuel our art and vice versa. Our work with video and fashion in our music has helped evolve our professional lives as well.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
For aspiring musicians, I would say to make art for yourself. Do not create what you think others want to hear, make it for yourself. You will always be your biggest fan and worst critic, so please yourself first.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I would like to tell our fans that “you are not alone” and “you are wonderful”. We are all human, we hurt, we mourn, we love, and that process is universal. If fans can take comfort in our words and dance to our music, maybe we can all escape our personal trials even if for a moment.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
We are currently recording our debut album and will be performing with Harsh Symmetry in Austin and San Antonio February 16th and 17th. Also performing with Crunk Witch in San Antonio on April 4th, and our friends Moon Tokki and Wrevvlone on April 29th.
