Music Interview: Windfread on his creative tastes, musical influences & new single “Too Comfortable”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Thank you for having me! I go by the name of Windfread as it’s my middle name along with my father’s, so it’s a testament on both behaves. And I’m from America.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Music came to me when I was around 16 years old and started singing the chorus’ on the rap music I came about making in my early days of 2018. People started to like that more and complimented me on my vocals, so I sought after my favorite genre being pop.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
“Too Comfortable” is the closing chapter on my confessions of a past relationship that didn’t go the way I planned.
This record is about a girl that I’m falling for and I think she’s doing the same for me too. Yet, my past heartbreak and similar scenarios made me cautious. Thus, I don’t want to end up in the same way that I was before.
What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?
My goal is to just engulf the listener in their own realm of sound and memories by sharing and expressing mine. And that’s something I find to be seemingly rare in the industry.
I do this specifically by throwing in some jazz, and 80’s pop in a few short frames of the records I produce [which are every].
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My 2 biggest musical influences currently are Charlie Puth and The Japanese House. Charlie’s Voicenotes album is the living textbook of record production that I go to for every project. And Amber Bain’s vibe and clammy voice just sticks so punctually to their sound which is something I try to do as well.
Down the road I would love to work with Halsey on an unreleased duet I made a few months back. It’s one of my favorite records I’ve made throughout my career for sure!
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I am most pleased with the work I completed in the final month of 2020. I had just finished recording and mastering an EP that I’ll be announcing soon. The records on it are so beautiful and pristine and have been worked on for 5 months, so It was very relieving for me to have that off of my chest.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
Well, being that I now attend college, I have to complete all of my music in the breaks and weekend, or after classwork. But 10 hours out of my day are consumed by music. And that’s partially why I only sleep 6-5 hours a day since my headphones are almost always on my head.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
The cliché phrase, “Never say never” is always overlooked, but it’s those that step on the AMA stages and have documentaries about them that believed in that. So never allow limitations to be separations from yourself and what you believe in.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
To everyone wherever you are that spend your 3 minutes or more to listen to my music, you are more important than you know. There were countless times I almost quit, but just seeing 20 streams was enough and will always be enough for me. You’re all very near and special to my heart and I hope to see all of your faces from the stage real soon! J
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
I will release 2 singles and 1 EP this year! The 1st single, “Too Comfortable” is coming this February on the 12th on the road to the 8-track EP. Only one of the singles will be present on the EP, so it will still have plenty surprises left on the table.
