Music Interview: Dave Tsimba delves on his creative tastes, musical influences & “Out of Place”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
I am honored to be featured! My name is Dave Tsimba and I am from Nashville, TN.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I’ve always had a gift for music. Learned drums at the age of three and many more instruments but never thought I would get into rapping/poetry at all. When it comes to the moment that made me realize that this was what I needed to do, was the moment when I realized no matter how many times I’ve tried to do other things, it came back to me. At my lowest moment of losing my jobs and life was going south and dropping out of school, it was the only thing that was still there.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
The song Out of Place is a Drill UK/Brooklyn type of sound with a bit of a twist on it. I talk very much so about how you can realize that you’re meant to be different. It’s not a feeling I can explain to many so I just say ‘I feel Out of Place…’ If you ever get a chance to listen to the rest of the catalog, you’ll fall in love with the adlibs, the vibes and the switches in languages that many don’t know too much about yet.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
This is a tough question but that would have to be something someone else experiences. I know what makes it different to me but to others I’m not sure. I can say that being able to rap & sing in both French and English, I have a versatility that many do not have at all. The French has yet to be unleashed.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Man I have so many influences. Ranging from Michael Jackson to Drake himself but then you have Jay-Z, Nas, Pac & B.I.G. Then French rappers such as Maitre Gims and Damso.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I’m still chasing the best moments cause there are many but for sure has to be the family of guys I have around me and God being able to bring us to do this together. Big shoutout to AB, HV, Haile Yeah, MJ, Jugo James, Chef Dev and so many more guys that really help inspire, motivate and support the journey.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
My relationship with my music is very intriguing to say the least. I’m very hard on myself in many aspects of it. Still struggle with trying to have it right so me chasing my dreams, sad to state, has definitely been detrimental to those that don’t see what we see or view it differently. I don’t go out much unless it’s a shoot or work. Luckily, been blessed to be able to step away a little more form work to have more time to work on the music.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Honestly, being yourself and never giving up is the best advice. If you quit, you start back at square one. You were at square ten and said ‘getting to eleven is too hard’ so you quit and now you have a whole different route to get back to where you left off. Don’t quit, keep going and stay focused.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I can’t do this without those who support… it’s not just supporting me, if I resonate with you and vise versa, it’s your feelings that are also taken into account. Someone out there could be having the worst day ever and my music may just be what they need to feel better. No better feeling than that and for that I am immensely grateful!
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
In the most confident way possible, I plan to take over the summer so please stay tuned and would love a follow and I also love sharing new work so if anyone has new music as well I will always spread the love back!
