Music Interview: Ciinderella Balthazar delves on her creative tastes & collaborative single “Break Free” with Belgian producer Funky Fool

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Thank you for having me! My name is Ciinderella Balthazar (reel name), I’m 24 and I’m based in London.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
The day I touched a grand piano for the first time, I knew I wanted to be a musician. My mom, who was raising three children on her own couldn’t afford any lessons. For many years I would write poems, lyrics, sing and the day I was finally able to go the music academy, I knew this was going to be my career.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
“Break Free” is a collaboration single with Belgian producer, Funky Fool. We met years ago and reconnected through music. The lyrics are about emotional freedom, the beat and melody are uplifting, they bring moments of joy, moments of certitude, breaking free of norms.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
I would describe my music as universal, it touches the soul, it has no cultural borders. “Break Free” is very summer electro with a hint of house and soul.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My influences are inspired from my cultural heritage. I listen to Mercedes Sosa, Nina Simone, Jacque Brel, Oum Kulthum, Florence & The Machine, Chopin, it varies with my mood of the day.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I wrote the theme song of a short film “Fairweather” directed by the talented Vittoria Rizzardi Peñalosa and the film was nominated for 3 awards internationally. I also made my Red Carpet debut last year at the Bafta Awards, it was a big push for my career and positioning.
How do you balance your music with other obligations –family, friends or work?
I take breaks, long breaks for days, sometimes weeks. Music drains you, physically and emotionally, especially when you give it all. It is important to resource yourself. I love going for walks around the city, I space my schedule to spend quality time with my beloved ones.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Hussle with Class!
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Go where you are celebrated not tolerated!
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
I am currently working on my debut single “HOLDING BACK”, I will be able to reveal the release date in a couple of weeks!
