Alicia Lov-2

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

My name is Alicia Lov (pronounced Ah-lee-see-ah)! My family comes from Spain which is why its pronounced differently. However, I was born in Alberta, Canada and that’s where I’m currently living.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing the violin when I was about 5 years old, and then started learning the cello and piano when I was 7. I started dancing when I was 8 which became my passion as I grew up and began competing. I will always love dancing, but coming home, sitting at the piano with my sister as we sang covers of songs and harmonized with one another will always be one of my favourite things. Growing up we were always singing together, and as my love for music and dance grew, I knew that that’s the path I wanted to follow. I’m only 20, however life has already given me a handful and I like to tell my stories through my music and express the things I’ve been through.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

So my song ‘Criminal’ represents a bit of my dark side you could say. In the past few years Ive seen and experienced different things that entailed risk and excitement, but came with consequences to say the least. This song is inspired by the emotional highs and lows that come with risky decisions and how it can really effect you as a person, not only in negative ways.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

I would categorize my music as pop, however every time I write a song I take influences from other sub genres. For example my song ‘Criminal’ has a trap beat behind it at certain moments, however the vocals come from a more alternative pop vibe. I also love playing with r&b vibes and I love dancehall and afrobeat production mixes. My music taste isn’t committed to any specific genre and a lot of what I listen to, inspires my songwriting.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

My biggest influences would have to be Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, as far as artists who influence the music I make, and who I would consider role models for what I want to do.

However there are many artists who influence me in the sense that their music and hard work inspires me to give music my all, and sparks ideas when I listen. Some examples of these artists would be Flatbush Zombies, Mac Miller, Anderson Paak, and so many more.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

As my music career is just starting, I don’t have much to pull from, but the day ‘Criminal’ finally dropped and I had a real original song out in stores, it was definitely a proud moment.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

In all honesty, because of COVID life has been moving pretty slow and I have been able to dedicate a lot more time to making music. In a sense it is kind of lucky that I have had so much free time but I am definitely excited for things to start picking up.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

I think my best advice would be to have someone you trust to have your back with the business side of things. My best friend was always interested in the music industry but not actually making music, where as I wanted to make music, so we teamed up and he is now my manager. Having that support has helped me get out of my head, and has really been my rock when I start filling with doubts and insecurities about my music.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

I would just want to say that I have so much passion and love to give and I’m riding this wave to the end, so get in now so you can say you were listening to me before I made it big! Lol but honestly I just want to make music that helps people, the way my idols have helped me.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I currently have one single out, but I have another single and an EP on the way! I’m continuing to write music and there will always be more on the way. I can’t wait for you to hear whats coming.
