Morningside Lane share their music influences, creative tastes and new single “Like A Season”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Hey! We’re Morningside Lane (MSL for short), and we are a 80s synth/pop band out of NJ. Our name came from the street where our lead singer, Marc, grew up.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
We all have had different paths that led us to Morningside Lane. For Marc, who started the band in 2009, Brian, Frankie and Dennis arrived after 2018 and found the chemistry, talent, and the same like-minded musicians, to fulfil their dream with.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
Our new song, “Like A Season”, that is out everywhere on Feb 11, 2022 , describes two people suspicious of each other. They’re both holding onto resentment towards one another and refuse to admit it.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
We would describe our genre of music as 80s synth/pop. Since starting out as an 80s style rock band, the addition of our keyboard/synth player, Dennis, gave us the opportunity to tap into some of our true idols in the 80s disco/pop sound.
Morningside Lane gives a very fresh, and modern take on some of the most influential music that shaped music for generations to come.
Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Our biggest musical influences would be The 1975, The Killers, and Bruce Springsteen. The three artists that come to mind to collaborate with are Bleachers, Haim, and Penguin Prison.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
The year of 2020 brought a lot of uncertainty to the music industry and in a time where bands and artists we’re trying to find themselves, we knew that we had to put our business hats on and figure out a way to navigate through those trying times. We released our first single, “Glass Skin” in June of 2020 with this current lineup, and we couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative of the great response and support we got.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
It is certainly not easy and it’s something we deal with all the time. This band is what we live, sleep, and breathe, and we are so thankful to have an amazing support system through our family and friends that support us through it. We all currently have day jobs that can be conflicting at times, but we love this band and our dream to the point where we make anything work. The key is to never burn yourself out and take time when you can to disconnect and give the love you receive right back to everyone that supports you along the way, especially family and friends.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Aspiring to be a professional musician is a big commitment that takes time, thick skin, patience, and resilience. The best piece of advice we can give to aspiring bands is to ALWAYS make sure you are with members who are all like-minded. It’s ok to have a difference of opinion, but at the end of the day, you all have to want the same goal and share the love and the drive for what you want the future of your music career to be.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
We love you. We would not be where we are right now without all your support and love. When we’re on stage and see all of you singing our lyrics, or dancing to our songs, we feel not only fulfilled, but know that we are doing what we were destined to do.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
