Meet Kane Winehouse, Artist. Healer. Liberator.

Kane Winehouse is an artist from Leicester. He would describe his sound as coming of age and encapsulates that through his introspective writing. Raw and rejuvenating, he uses his writing process as a way of healing through his own hardships and wants to take his listeners along for the journey. If there’s one thing to know – he doesn’t move with the hype. He hopes those that connect with his music are left feeling a sense of liberation. It’s about self development, together.
He cites Donald Glover, Frank Ocean, Sainté & The Weeknd as big inspirations and influences on his artistry. “These guys know how to execute. The art can go a long way but I want to know who’s behind the art, the origin of it, the aesthetic, you know? These guys know how to carry themselves and I think that’s really important. They keep it authentic.”
Tell us about Calm During the Storm
“I reflect on some hardships in this song. But the main takeaway from this record is growth, and celebrating it. Ultimately, life is problems. Good or bad, for all of us, it’s inevitable. But if you can maintain a sense of calm and composure when life hits you, you’re gonna win every single time. And that’s what this song is all about. It took me a long time to get to this point, it’s an iterative process.”
You described your music as liberating, how so?
“Through radical honesty, and being vulnerable. I feel like there’s this toxic wave of emotional suppression going on at the moment, especially for us guys. We feel as though we gotta thug it out otherwise we’re compromising our masculinity. I don’t live like that, I’m tuned into my emotions. I hope those that connect with the music can take a leaf out of my book.”
What can we be hearing next?
“I’m working on two records right now. They’re very powerful bodies of work and I’m very proud of them. The flows, the instrumentation, they’re just beautiful, honest records and I cannot wait to release them!”
What’s a project you’ve been bumping recently?
“Harry’s House & Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers have both been on heavy rotation. Big on a record having replay value and these albums have got that on lock. I love Harry Styles. He rides his own wave and this latest album was just so sonically pleasing. Big up Kenny too, the man’s a genius.”
Kane Winehouse’s EP, Calm During the Storm, is out now.
