Kanye West says he doesn’t like Kendrick Lamar’s music after feature on Playboi Carti’s album

Kanye West has said he doesn’t like Kendrick Lamar‘s music following the release of Playboi Carti‘s long-awaited album.
The record, ‘Music’, was set to be released yesterday (March 14) at midnight, but Carti originally delayed the release by three hours, with delays reportedly due to an issue with sample clearances.
The album has 30 songs with guest spots from notable artists such as Travis Scott, Future, The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign, and Young Thug. You can check out the full tracklist here. Carti’s frequent collaborator Lil Uzi Vert also appears on ‘Music’, featuring on ‘Jumpin’ and ‘Twin Trim’ – their first collaborations in seven years since ‘Shooters’ from Carti’s 2018 debut ‘Die Lit’.
Carti also teamed up with Skepta and Lamar for the first time, with the ‘Not Like Us’ rapper featuring on ‘Mojo Jojo’, ‘Backdoor’ and ‘Good Credit’.
On Friday morning (March 14), West – now legally known as Ye – shared his thoughts on Lamar’s involvement on Carti’s latest effort. “I DON’T LIKE KENDRICK LAMARS MUSIC,” he wrote on X/Twitter. “HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDNT NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM.”

As Billboard have noted, it comes only a month after the ‘Carnival’ artist said Lamar was the only one who could beat him in a rap battle. “If you rap against Kendrick, you will lose,” he said recently. “This man does this. You know, in Street Fighter, you get Chun-Li, you get a certain kick, and no matter what, you can’t beat that thing?”
Elsewhere, West has come under fire in recent months for selling a white T-shirt with a large swastika emblem on the chest, listed as “HH-01” on his website – possibly a reference to the “Heil Hitler” chant.
The site was later taken down by Shopify, though the online retailer later stated that the artist’s website was taken down due to the potential for fraud – not because it was selling a swastika t-shirt. Shopify did condemn the item, calling it “vile, disgusting and inexcusable”.
Earlier this year, Charlamagne said he believed that the rappers online tirades and public stunts are the result of him being “envious” of Kendrick Lamar‘s current success.

West then took to X to say he’s had the idea for the t-shirt for “over eight years”. It came alongside a string of highly controversial posts which saw him rescind his apology to the Jewish community for his past anti-Semitic remarks, and go on to declare himself “a Nazi”.
He also wrote: “I love Hitler”, as well as praise billionaire and X owner Elon Musk as “the most lit person that [has] ever been on Twitter”, following the latter’s accusations of Nazism at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.
Then, the controversial rapper then seemed to backtrack on his earlier comments, taking to X to share that “after further reflection”, he’s “come to the realisation that I’m not a Nazi”. However, it was followed only a few days later by yet more swastika apparel appearing on his X page.
Since then, he has teased the return of his Sunday Service choir events and posted a picture of a KKK robe on social media.
Meanwhile, Lamar, who has not yet responded to West’s comment, recently became the first solo rap act to headline a Super Bowl Halftime Show, and his set is now the most-viewed in history. Despite his recent criticism, West had previously praised Lamar’s performance, calling it his “favourite” one since Michael Jackson‘s iconic 1993 performance.
