Kali Uchis says upcoming new album is about a “life-altering event”

Kali Uchis has given an update on her upcoming new album, saying it focuses on a “life-altering event”.
The American-Colombian singer shared ‘Orquídeas‘ in January 2024, and then its deluxe ‘Orquídeas Parte 2’ in August. The former landed on NME‘s best albums of 2024 so far list midway through the year.
Now, in a new interview with 10 Magazine, she’s revealed she’s working on her next LP, which stems from a “life-altering event”.
“Actually, in a very mystical and beautiful way, I’ve had the honour of my albums becoming more meaningful than I even planned them to be because of the course that my life has taken,” she told the magazine.
Though she didn’t mention what the event in question was, she shared that the entire record is dedicated to it, including the yet-to-be-revealed release date.
“The album is about the complexities of life and finding ways to find joy in life despite the world. Finding ways to appreciate every moment and not take life for granted. Treat every day special,” she said. “It’s my most existential and honest work. It’s definitely the most beautiful body of work to me, and it’s going to be, for me, the most meaningful and impactful.”
Uchis went on to say that the album will be entirely in English, saying that it became “a lot more meaningful” following “the turn of events that happened in my life.”

NME reviewed ‘Orquídeas’ upon its release, giving it four stars: “Uchis masterfully melds her bicultural worlds in the dembow-driven ‘Muñekita’. She is joined by City Girls’ JT and Dominican rapper El Alfa in the fierce and freaky track about a woman living her best life in the club. Uchis later opens her heart in Spanglish in ‘Tu Corazón Es Mío’, in which divulges her pregnancy with Don Toliver.
“Backed by lush R&B production with Latin percussion, she showers her baby on the way with loving lyrics: “I know that you’re mine entirely / All that you need’s inside of me,” Uchis sings in Spanish.
“Through her boundless ‘Orquídeas’ albums, Uchis blossoms into a fearless pop ambassador at the forefront of breaking down the divide between music in English and Spanish.”
