Jennifer Coolidge says she hopes Greg from ‘The White Lotus’ gets “brutal” payback: “I hate Greg!”
Jennifer Coolidge has shared her opinions about the reappearance of Greg, her White Lotus character’s husband played by Jon Gries, in the show’s third season.
Coolidge starred as Tanya McQuoid in the two seasons of the hit HBO show, and was the only character to carry over between the first two seasons. She met her death at the end of season two, after suffering a fatal fall off a boat while she was trying to escape a group of men who were likely trying to kill her.
Shortly before her untimely death, she had discovered that the men in question were linked to her husband Greg (played by Gries) and that one of them, Quentin (Tom Hollander), was likely Greg’s lover. It’s inferred that Greg set up the murder scheme to access her fortune.
Now, Greg has made a surprise return for season three, under the new name Gary – and Coolidge has shared her reaction.
“Jon Gries has shown up,” Coolidge told Forbes in a recent interview. “I hope he gets it! I hope they do something terrible to him.”
She then went on to tell E! News: “I hate Greg!” before adding: “Greg doesn’t deserve anything good. I hope he gets what he deserves, which is something really brutal.”
Coolidge also went on to say that she is “envious as hell” not to be in season three and that she could tell the season would be good from its first episode.
“I just felt like everything he set up – it’s really eerie – you’re not quite sure what people are up to yet. My guess? Something’s going to go horribly wrong. I think it’s really going to go wrong,” Coolidge told Forbes.
It’s not the first time Coolidge has voiced her desire for revenge, after saying in 2023 that she hopes Tanya’s husband dies in a “meat-grinding machine” in The White Lotus season three.
Speaking to Variety, Coolidge explained at the time that she hopes there’s some “comeuppance” for Greg in the next season. “My hope for Jon is that he’s not finished with Greg,” Coolidge said. “I hope there’s some comeuppance for evil Greg. I think he should, I don’t know, end up in a meat-grinding machine.”
Following Tanya’s death on the show, creator Mike White said that there is the possibility of a prequel series focusing on the character.
Following seasons set in Hawaii and Sicily, the current third season takes place in Thailand. While there are lots of new additions to the cast, season 1 character Belinda Lindsey (Natasha Rothwell) makes a return. Belinda, first introduced as a spa manager at the White Lotus hotel in Maui in the debut season, is enjoying a transfer stay at the sister hotel in Thailand.
Among the other stars of season 3 are BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, Leslie Bibb and Scott Glenn.
Season three of The White Lotus premiered February 16, with NME’s four-star review describing it as “TV’s most essential destination”, remarking that “this transgressive soap opera remains unique and completely jaw-dropping”.
In January HBO confirmed that The White Lotus has been renewed for a fourth season. Details surrounding season four have yet to be announced, but will welcome fans of the hit series “to a new destination”.
