1. Jack Harlow began rapping at age 12

By the age of 12, jack Harlow began rapping with his friend Copelan Garvey with records they sold to their mid-school buddies. With his talents and success, he was finally able to release his first-ever commercial album titled The Handsome Harlow.

2. He first opened for Vince Staples in Louisville

When Harlow moved from Shelbyville to Louisville, he often played sold-out shows at Louisville venues like Mercury Ballroom and the Haymarket Whiskey Bar. In 2016, he opened for Vince Staples at Headliners Music Hall which at the time he was still in high school. In an interview with Jeffrey Lee Puckett he was pretty confident of his lyrical skills saying, “I guess by the end of the year I just want to become an artist that can be regarded on a national scale,” Harlow said. “The local thing feels conquered to me. It’s really cool to do the whole local thing, but the next goal is to expand my fan base out of the city. That’s how you make a living.”

3. Jack Harlow worked at the Chick-fil-A

Harlow is just one of many celebrities who worked in fast food before going on to achieve greatness. Before becoming fаmous, Jаck Hаrlow worked аt Chick-fil-A. He recounted to The Breakfast Club how he came to meet record executive DJ Drama, who eventually signed the artist. “I moved to Atlanta, six hours away from Louisville, so I was making drives to go down there to do open mics; anything I could do to get on. And I just had heard through the grapevine, ‘Yo, Drama wants to meet you,’” he recalled. “At the time, I’m working at Chick-fil-A at Georgia State. Me and my best friends had moved down, like I’m trying to meet anyone I could meet.”

4. He signed to Don Cannon and DJ Drama’s record label Generation Now

In 2018, Jack Harlow signed a deal with Atlantic Records through DJ Drama and Don Cannon’s Generation Now imprint. In celebration of the new venture, Harlow rounded up a gang of friends to appear in his frenzied “SUNDOWN” video, with the track appearing on his mixtape, Loose. “’SUNDOWN’ is me breaking the silence. We haven’t dropped anything all year. This Feels like an epic way to come back. ‘Loose’ is the new tape and it’s something I have high expectations for,” the “Dark Knight” artist tells Billboard. “It’s definitely tapping into a style my fans haven’t heard yet. I had a lot more fun making this project. Hopefully it shows.”

5. Became famous with his 2020 single, “What’s Poppin”

With two well-received albums released through Atlantic Records and a BET award under his belt, the Louisville rapper dropped his hit single “What’s Poppin“. The song, produced by Pooh Beatz and DaBaby‘s frequent collaborator jetsonmade, contains several sports allusions. It’s accompanying visual directed by the talented Cole Bennett of Lyrical Lemonade and was included on Harlow’s EP Sweet Action. The song peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went on to receive a Grammy Award nomination.

The official remix for Harlow’s ‘What’s Poppin”, featured Tory Lanez Lil Wayne and DaBaby, and spent 14 straight weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, peaking at Number Two. When Megan Thee Stallion shared that Tory Lanez shot her, many artists responded by removing Lanez from tracks they released with him. But Jack Harlow did not remove him. During an interview with LA radio station Power 106, Harlow was asked why he decided to keep Lanez on the track, “I don’t think I’m God,” he replied. “I don’t have no room to judge anybody. I wasn’t there when this and that happened, I don’t know anything. Who am I to judge? For me it’s music, and there’s a certain integrity you have to keep as an artist. There’s three sides to every story. I don’t think it’s my place to start judging.”

Jack Harlow joined up with Lil Nas X to drop the hit single “Industry Baby“. This became Harlow’s first number one single. In the video. Lil Nas X is locked up in the slammer after the judge, played by himself, finds him guilty for being gay. Lil Nas X opens the song, produced by songwriting duo Take a Daytrip and Kanye West, with not-so-humble brags about his Grammys and platinum plaques. Elise Brisco of USA TODAY also mentioned that “The rest of the video ensues with a plot planned and executed by Harlow and the “Montero” partnering up to break out of the institution so they can continue to take over the music world as industry newbies … or babies, rather.”

8. “First Class”, became his second number-one

Jack Harlow‘s “First Class” takes flight in style, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. It was the Louisville rapper’s second No. 1 single and his first-ever solo No. 1, following his feature on Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby”. Built around a sample of Fergie’s timeless “Glamorous,” “First Class” finds Harlow further dabbling in the space between dorky and affable – perhaps the key to his success.
