Jack Black surprises ‘Minecraft’ fans at cinema, asks them not to throw popcorn

Jack Black asked an audience at a screening of A Minecraft Movie not to throw popcorn at the screen, amid ongoing headlines about chaos at showings of the film.
Despite receiving a middling reception from critics, the adaptation of the popular video game has been a box office smash hit, currently standing at $552million worldwide, the highest grossing Hollywood film of the year so far.
It has, however, been dogged controversy over filmed incidents of fans being raucous at screenings – screaming, shouting along with popular lines, and throwing popcorn at the screen. The phenomenon has led the Cineworld chain of cinemas to introduce “Chicken Jockey Screenings”, where audience participation is encouraged.
At a screening of the film in America, Black was captured introducing the film to a surprised audience of mainly younger fans.
“For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popped corn, and no lapis lazuli and also absolutely no chicken jockey!” He exclaimed on a microphone, before adding: “Oh yeah! I am Steve. Are you ready to rock? Ladies and gentleman please enjoy, ‘A Minecraft Movie.’ Roll the projector!”

The actor then proceeded to run up and down the stairs of the screening, high-fiving members of the audience while holding up a Minecraft-style pickaxe.
The debate has raged online as to whether the behaviour at screenings of the film is a good or bad thing. Talking about one video that went viral, a TikTok commenter wrote: “If you don’t like people screaming out of joy at the movies go watch it on your laptop”.
Elsewhere, streamer Valkyrae has confirmed their cameo in A Minecraft Movie has been cut. The announcement came after she criticised star Jason Momoa’s behaviour while filming with him on set.
