Grimes has taken to social media to say she is “enraged” she can’t shield her and Elon Musk‘s daughter from pervasive online “beauty culture”.

The Canadian artist (real name Claire Boucher) shares three children with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO: X Æ A-Xii (aka Lil X), Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, and Techno Mechanicus (aka Tau).

The former couple announced their split in September 2021, confirming that they had broken up after three years together but “still love each other”. However, the ‘Oblivion’ artist has been increasingly critical of the billionaire’s parental choices after the tech mogul paraded Lil X around the Oval Office in the White House back in February.

More recently, she took to X/Twitter – which Musk purchased for a staggering $44billion in 2022 – to lament feeling “choked to death on beauty culture”. The singer went on to say she’d been listening to a “super bro mens podcast” which usually gives her “laughably misdirected” adverts, when she instead got one for beauty outlet Sephora.

“Can I go somewhere where someone isn’t shoving ‘DONT YOU WANT TO BE BEAUTIFUL’ down my throat,” she wrote. “I’m getting like radicalized just out of pure desire to not have to engage with this sick notion of beauty that follows me like a wraith.”

And in a follow up message, Grimes wrote of her worries that Exa might be affected by the messaging found online. “The insidiousness of what our culture does to young women is insane,” she said. “I feel enraged knowing I won’t be able to protect my daughter from this. What a monumental waste of mental space. All the large tech and media companies are complicit in this.”

While she didn’t explicitly name Musk, tensions between the two have been ongoing, with her telling fans she “begged” him to keep their children out of the public eye.

Last November, Grimes opened up about her custody battle with Musk over their children, claiming: “I didn’t see one of my babies for five months.” Over the summer, Grimes’ mother Sandy Garossino pleaded with Musk to let her 93-year-old mother see her great-grandchildren “one last time” while she was in “end-of-life palliative care”.

In 2023, Grimes sued Musk over the custody rights to Tau, claiming that he wasn’t letting her visit him. Musk is a father of 13 children in total, some of whom were conceived via IVF.

Meanwhile, the musician recently clarified her stance on Musk‘s controversial Nazi-like gestures at Trump‘s Presidential inauguration last month.

In other news, Grimes has shared two previously unreleased demos on Soundcloud: ‘I Don’t Give A Fuck, I’m Insane’ and ‘The Fool’.
