Fly Kaison delves on his creative tastes, musical influences & latest project “S.M.D”
Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
My Name is Fly Kaison And i am from Brooklyn, Brownsville to be exact. My Name is my real name so that’s why it’s special to me. And i just released my latest project Setbacks, Mistakes, Distractions, or S.M.D. for short.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I have always been into rap music since I was a child and I started really tapping into my talents in college. I put out my first mixtape around summer 2017 and since then ive just been trying to stay consistent.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
S.M.D had songs on it I produced and recorded 3 years ago but I never released any music because I wasn’t focused. That’s where the title comes from, It’s me acknowledging my faults and shortcomings and then putting it all on display. In brooklyn SMD is also short for Suck My D**k so in a way i’m also taunting viewers with the imagery.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
My Music is definitely hip hop / Rap music but it’s unique because of the way I transition through themes and styles and emotions. Every song offers a different style but still keeps the same tight lyrics and solid song structure. As well as having original production to highlight each element. I’m also unique because I’m not a mumble rapper everything i say is clear and clever but still simple enough to understand.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
The typical guys Jay Z, Kanye , and all the new major artists are people I would collaborate with and also get inspired by. I listen and draw inspiration from all styles of music, different genres and decades.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
The best moment for me is when we debut a song I helped write and perform on Sway in the morning . I told Sway one day I would be on his show and years later it actually happened.
How do you balance your music with other obligations?
That’s a hard thing to do but I just try to find time for myself to focus on my music and then make time for everything else throughout the day. It’s all about time management and creating a schedule that works.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Don’t stop, keep going, don’t take a break. Find something positive to help you stay focused and confident and don’t waste your time being too critical.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Thank you for supporting me this far, my journey is still beginning so i have much more to give.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
For now i am focused on promotion i have a few more freestyles and singles in the mix and then getting on stage to perform for the people after that.
