Colin Biz delves on his creative tastes, music influences & new project “Doreen’s Favorite”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
My name is Colin Biz, I’m a creative from Brooklyn NYC by way of Georgetown Guyana. I got my name from my pops. His middle name is my first name and Biz is just short for Bizzeth which is my last name.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I grew up with music all around me. My pops played music in the house every day. Everything from Bob Marley to Michael Jackson. I however gravitated to Hip hop. I came to America during the golden era of Hip Hop! The guys in my neighborhood were bumping KRS ONE, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and others out of their cars. My cousins and I started a rap group when we were younger, I also grew up on Yo! MTV Raps, Video Music Box and Flava videos! I always knew I was going to be involved in Hip Hop in some form or fashion.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
My new album is actually an audio memoir/book titled “Doreens’s Favorite”. Unlike other audio books this is set to an amazing score. It’s my entire life story. From the minute I stepped off that plane and smack dab in to the crack era and the golden age of hip hop!
What makes your music unique? And how would you describe it?
My “Music” isn’t necessarily that. I’m telling amazing and REAL stories of my come up. I served as an intern for VP Records, I’ve dabbled in Radio, a Successful podcast, artist management, acting and much more. I’ve done everything I told myself I was going to do!
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My biggest influence coming up was Jay-Z and Rocafella Records. I looked up to those guys. I started a record label and modeled by whole blueprint on what they’ve done! Damon Dash, Kareem “Biggs” Burke and Shawn Carter are icons! I would love to collab with any artist that will let me executive produce their album. However, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Pusha T and 3Dnatee are on the top of my list. My partner Ryan Smith and I will orchestrate a classic!
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I’m most proud of Doreen’s Favorite, my audio book. It’s my entire life, my first offering and contribution to the Hip Hop Culture.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
I try to include my babies in whatever it is that I’m doing. My recording process for my album included my kids basically serving as EPs. Whether I’m doing a podcast, acting or recording albums my babies will be around.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Keep going! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. They’re just displaying their insecurities on you. BET ON YOURSELF!
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
I like to call them Supporters. I don’t like that word FAN. All of my supporters are the best! Keep rocking with me! It’s game time!
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Right now it’s about promotion, promotion, promotion. I’m seeing videos bumpin my audio book out of their cars. Amazing feeling. Doreen’s Favorite is going to rock out for two summers. I’m currently working on some footage for the project! Stay tuned.
