Billy Idol “had a son that I didn’t realise” from 1985 ‘Rebel Yell’ tour

Billy Idol has recently discovered that he has a long-lost son who was conceived during his 1985 ‘Rebel Yell’ tour.
The punk icon shared the news in his new documentary, Billy Idol Should Be Dead –which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this month.
The discovery was first found by his daughter, Bonnie, who explained in the documentary that she was given a DNA test as a gift from her husband. After sending off the sample, the results showed that she had another sibling.
“A few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I’m like, ‘Who is this?’” she said (via Far Out), noticing that the test had flagged someone up as a relative. “This Brant… it says his info is like, ‘New York, 1985, looking for my bio dad.’ I was like, ‘What?’”
It was through this 35-year-old Bonnie and her 36-year-old half-brother Willem discovered that they had a long-lost sibling.
“I actually had a son that I didn’t realise,” Billy Idol said in the documentary, also adding that Brant is someone “who I fathered on the ‘Rebel Yell’ tour without knowing it”.
Also in the film, Brant shared his side of the story and said that he was also unaware of his connection to the singer until he did the DNA test on 23AndMe. Up until that point, he was led to believe that someone else was his biological father.
“I was like, ‘Mom, is there a chance Mark might not be my biological father?’ And she was like, ‘Well, it’s pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol’,” he shared.
Billy Idol Should Be Dead premiered in New York earlier this month and explores the ‘White Wedding’ singer’s career and personal life. You can find more information about the film and upcoming screenings here.
In other Billy Idol news, last month the soloist and Generation X singer defended the use of swastikas in the punk movement, saying it was about “performance art”. Before then, he dropped ‘Dream Into It’ – his first studio album in over a decade which featured a collaboration with Avril Lavigne. In April, the two teamed up to perform the song, called ‘77’, on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
