Brad Pitt ate four plates of beans for film scene, and his flatulence made crew flee the set

Brad Pitt has recalled the time his stomach troubles made the crew on one of his films flee.
In recent years, the actor has gathered something of a reputation for the amount of times he is seen eating on-screen during his films – with examples including him having bags of Lay’s crisps in Se7en, turkey legs in Troy, hot dogs in Cutting Class, and even a rat in Interview With A Vampire.
Now, during a new interview with Jason and Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast, Pitt has spoken about one of the times when his habit of eating while filming didn’t turn out so well.
He told the hosts that his favourite dish on set was an ice cream sundae in Oceans Eleven, but his least favourite involved him pounding multiple plates of beans.
While he didn’t reveal which film it was, he did say it was one of his earlier projects and that the scene involved him shooting in a small cafe with roughly 60 crew members on set. For the scene, he had to scoff down a big plate of beans and bacon as it was the first food that his character had had in days.
He said that he decided to go “method” for the scene, and actually eat the full plate of food time and time again to try and get the shot right, until it made him unwell.
“I just powered down this plate of beans,” he shared. “Take two, do the same thing. Take three, I do the same thing. Take four, I do the same thing. Something hit me. There was nothing I could do. I was stuck in this chair, nature took its course.”
He added that he initially thought he had “gotten away” with passing gas on set, until he noticed that everyone around him had cleared out. “Suddenly, the entire crew, the most diabolical something-something descended on the crew in the whole room, and they fled the cafe. Fled!”
“Ever since then, I pace myself,” he added.
Although he didn’t share what film it was, it is likely that it may have been his 1991 film Johnny Suede, which featured a scene of his character eating baked beans.
Brad Pitt’s appearance on the New Heights podcast came as he is currently celebrating his latest film, F1, arriving in cinemas worldwide.
In a four-star review, NME described the movie as a “high-octane Hollywood celebration of Formula One” and added: “The film’s souped-up denouement at the Abu Dhabi grand prix is utterly ludicrous, but by this point, F1 The Movie has built up enough goodwill to get away with it. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, safe in the knowledge that the tyre talk never gets too overwhelming.
His co-star, Damson Idris, recently spoke to NME about working with Pitt and Javier Bardem on F1 too, saying: “They encourage the things I’m doing. And a lot of it is outside of the acting and about how I am in my day-to-day. They admire that I’m having fun – they always say that: ‘Man, you know how to have fun.’ And I think that’s so important.
We see so many people reach these amazing levels and they constantly talk about how it’s horrible: ‘I hate this and I can’t do this and I hate fame.’”
