The former star of The Good Place and mental health advocate shared the anecdote during a new interview with Paloma Faith, as part of a new episode for the latter’s Mad Sad Bad podcast.
During the discussion, Jamil explained some of the hardships she has faced in recent times, and shared that the 2024 edition of Glastonbury came during “one of the saddest” times of her life. This, she recalled, was because of the unexpected and “sudden” death of a friend.
While at the Worthy Farm event, Jamil was still in a vulnerable state and found herself getting emotional during Coldplay’s massive headline set on the Pyramid Stage. This, she recalled, took place while she was next to MCU actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
“Now I’ve become someone who cries to ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay,” Jamil recalled. “I was uncontrollable at Glastonbury. And I was ruining it for Benedict Cumberbatch who was next to me – who I don’t know.”
“So he’s just trying to listen to the song, and I’m just going – ‘ughhhhh!’”
Later in the interview, Jamil recalled to Faith how she also saw her partner James Blake perform at last year’s event, and explained how he helped her realise that she had “really checked out of life” when going through the grief.
“I tend to not register emotions in my brain – I just push emotions down into my body,” she added. “I rarely know I’m depressed when I’m depressed.”
She made the comments during an episode of Kelly Ripa’s podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera, and shared the upsetting toll it took on her health.
“I fucked up my kidney, my liver, my digestive system, my heart. And most recently, I found out that I have destroyed my bone density,” she said.

“I’m so sorry to my body that I have jeopardised my future so severely for a beauty standard and to try to fit in with other people… That’s why I’m so annoying, publicly, about eating disorders and diets. Because there’s so much talk about the dangers of being in a bigger body and there’s almost no talk about the dangers of not eating enough, only eating too much.”
“It’s not a slight on the simmering electro-pop subtlety of new single ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove’ – it’s lovely – but it’s barely over a week old and Glasto were geared up for a more familiar full-stop,” it added. “In the words of the great Michael J Fox: “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet.”
