Frank Ocean Bows Out of Coachella: A Disappointment for Fans

Frank Ocean fans are in for a disappointment as the singer has pulled out of his scheduled headlining slot at Coachella this Sunday due to an injury. A representative for the artist confirmed the news to Variety, adding that Blink-182 will be taking his place.
Ocean suffered two fractures and a sprain in his left leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1, preventing him from performing his intended show. Despite this, he still intended to perform, and the show was reworked out of necessity in just 72 hours.
Ocean’s set during the festival’s first weekend was solid musically but marred by major production issues, with an elaborate performance involving an ice rink and dozens of skaters suddenly called off. Although some sources say it was called off because Ocean decided he didn’t want to do it, the statement says that it was canceled because of the ankle injury he had suffered earlier in the week.
The news of Ocean’s cancellation comes after days of uproar around his polarizing set during the festival’s first weekend, which started an hour late, was obscured by a battery of people walking in a circle around the stage, and had a seemingly random DJ set dropped into the middle.
While fans may be disappointed, Blink-182 will take Ocean’s place as the Sunday headliner. Bad Bunny and Blackpink will return as the headliners for Friday and Saturday, respectively. The festival is still likely to end with a bang, despite Ocean’s absence.
Frank Ocean is a critically acclaimed artist known for his introspective lyrics and experimental sound. He rose to prominence as a member of the hip-hop collective Odd Future and released his debut album, “Channel Orange,” in 2012. He followed up with the release of his highly anticipated album “Blonde” in 2016, which received widespread critical acclaim.
