Joshua Bannon – On You Review

Joshua-Bannon-–-On-You-Review-2

Writing simple music requires an artist to be heartfelt, with the ability to write meaningful lyrics. It isn’t easy to do, but for Joshua Bannon, it’s just how his style works. It’s not easy, but he puts in the work, which has been going well for him. His new single, “On You,” has been released, and as usual, we’ll be putting it through a full review process. So, the question is, does it hold up under scrutiny, or does Joshua manage to impress us?

First off, the song’s musically quite simple. There’s a simple synth loop paired with a guitar riff as the main driving melody. It’s brisk and clean but works well for the song’s more down-to-earth tone and themes. We greatly enjoyed the song’s simpler approach to composition, and it makes for a compelling sound that’s easy to listen to. Practically anyone can listen to “On You” and enjoy its easy, light sound.

Joshua’s songwriting, meanwhile, matches the tone that the instrumentals and music set up. It’s somber and melancholic, with regretful overtones throughout. “On You” is, of course, a song about the vices of humanity and how Joshua Bannon finds it difficult to maintain his relationships. The girl he loves cheats on him, and while it’s difficult for him to process his feelings, he still looks back on his girl fondly and finds himself conflicted.

“On You” is, once again, pretty simple in its execution and themes. It’s incredibly easy to sympathize with Joshua, especially as he delivers his vocals in a cold and pained tone. His performance on the single is a key component in making its sadder tone work, and we appreciate his effort to make it suitably upsetting. The song is inspired by real-life experiences, reflected in the sincerity of Joshua’s singing.

In terms of production, the song’s also quite good. It’s clean and simple, maintaining the overall philosophy the single keeps to. “On You” is fun to listen to despite its simplicity, with catchy riffs and an engaging performance. There’s much to like here, especially if you enjoy more somber pop performances. Overall, “On You” is a solid single from an emerging new artist, and Joshua Bannon has a great one. We’re eager to see where he goes from here.
