If location is necessary, you can hear its effect on Brave, the latest release from Elliot Szabo. The album has a journey at its heart. Experiencing and soaking up such culturally important places as Marfa, Texas, and Muscle Shoals, Alabama, oozes the sonic resonance that is locked into the musical DNA of such places.

It is an album of both introspection and celebration; Brave is a life-affirming expression of artistry and identity but also marks a rebirth after struggling with the hardships of the depression.

And what an album it is, taking in anthemic pop-rock as in Holding On To You, the slow-burning and hypnotic The Train, a song which the likes of Peter Gabriel would kill for, the upbeat folk of Saved, and ofcourse, the gentle majestic balladry of Time of Your Life.

An album born of a personal struggle and woven from intimate experiences but an album that is universally relatable, lyrically poignant, and musically adept. Brilliant.
