As I Lay Dying is an American metal band from San Diego, California. Founded in 2000 by their vocalist Tim Lambesis and having completed their first Line-up in 2001, the band consists of vocalist Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, lead guitarist Nick Hipa, rhythm guitarist Phil Sgrosso, and bassist Josh Gilbert, all of whom are Christians. 8. Stryper
Stryper (which stands for “Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace, Encouragement, and Righteousness”) formed in 1983 in La Mirada, California by brothers Michael and Robert Sweet and guitarist Oz Fox as Roxx Regime. They would change their message and name to Stryper to go on to be the first Christian metal band to be recognized by the mainstream. They emerged in the mid-’80s with a sound and style that mirrored the melodic hard rock of the era. Stryper disbanded in 1993 but re-formed in 2005 and have gone on to release a string of well-received albums like Murder by Pride (2009), Fallen (2015), and Even the Devil Believes (2020).

Christian hard rock outfit Disciple rose out of Knoxville, Tennessee, in the mid-’90s, eventually breaking out with their Dove Award-nominated second album, 1999’s This Might Sting a Little Bit. For Today was a metalcore band that was based out of Sioux Falls, Iowa in the United States. The band formed in 2005, but broke up in 2016. “Unrelenting” is a word to describe the music: hardcore-influenced metal that combines melodic sweeps with breakdowns. They played thousands of shows in 4 continents and 19 countries since their formation. The band was an extremely well known band, especially upon Mattie Montgomery’s inception into the band in 2007. 12. Oh, Sleeper
An American metalcore group based out of the Lone Star State, Oh, Sleeper emerged in 2006 out of the ashes of the Christian emo/post-hardcore unit Terminal, who ceased operations following the release of their debut (and only) album How the Lonely Keep. After independently releasing The Titan EP and traveling in the full Van’s Warped Tour 2013, the band went on hiatus to allow clean vocalist and lead guitarist Shane Blay to join As I Lay Dying members in starting California-based metal band Wovenwar.

Phinehas is an American metalcore band from La Mirada, California, formed in 2001.
