Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hello, my name is Selwyn Ichizedek Richard Williams or simply just SirW. I’m from Toronto, Ontario, born and raised.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

I’ve always been into music but, it was around age 16 that I started to make my own. I started working at a young age and always hated the music on the radio. I got a recycled compute rand the first full song I made was for a TDSB competition. I never won because I ever entered. I’m better at cooking. I’m not meant to make music but I will anyways.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

L1 R1 is a project for the online community. I wanted to put out music that people can live-stream without getting a DMCA strike on their channel. This is a project that is meant to sound ‘unpolished’ or ‘rough’ and have more of a ‘Mixtape” aesthetic to it. Essentially, I wanted to make a gamer’s mixtape and ended up with a rough EP that slaps cheeks for 15-20 minutes.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

This is a Nerdcore-esque, Alternative Hip Hop album, as the lyrics and subject matter all pertain to video games, anime, moives and tv shows, while the instrumentation is heavily influenced by music and scores from video games/movies from the 90’s.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Biggest producer influences are; Timbaland, B.T., Nujabes, Jazzy Jeff, & Gramatik Biggest artist influences are; Will Smith, Lil Bow Wow, Xzibit, Busta Rhymes, DMX, Bobby Womack, Bob Marley & the Wailers

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

Learning how to play a guitar solo is always a big win for me. Love the electric guitar but I don’t practice enough.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

Its a fairly even mix when they bleed into one another from time to time. I make music with my friends when they’re free, and by myself when I feel like it. Playing my own music while working is like going to the gym and putting on that mix that fits perfectly to your mood.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Listen to yourself before you listen to other people. Unless you’re an asshole… I can’t help you.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for the support. It is not lost to me. Please be patient. I go through the music I make extensively before I put it out for people to spit on.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

I’ve got a few projects to be worked on but nothing solid right now. Nothing Special is coming soon.
