Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself. Big Bus Dream
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path? Got in to it when I was around 7 or 8. I think it was the beat and the song hooks that drew me in.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it? The single and album is Giant in My Mind. It is a musical journey of reflection. It was recorded over a year and a half. It was a long, strange trip.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? My music is eclectic – or so I have been told. The reason is it blends several genres. This is because I grew up listening to, and loving, all types of music.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? I am proud that I went back and wrote and recorded Giant in My Mind. I believe it is an original work. And that is difficult to do in any art form.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians? Be passionate and be unique. You need to find your own voice. Learn the business (or what is now being called the music business).
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be? Buy music again – it wasn’t always free.
Big Bus Dream Drops Raw Thought-Provoking new Album “Giant In My Mind”
If one word is used to describe the intriguing music of Big Bus Dream, it would have to be intense. With the word passionate a close second. Vocalist and acoustic guitar player Mike Shannon has a soulful voice, raw and overflowing with honesty. The music itself could be compared to a slightly more modern take on Bob Dylan or John Lennon-style protest songs. Captivating, literate, and respectful of the listener’s own intelligence. In exciting news for fans, and the music scene in general, Big Bus Dream recently announced their new album “Giant In My Mind” drops on June 3rd. This may be one of the project’s most captivating releases yet. And its lead single, of the same name, is truly epic.
“This is a song that has a personal meaning to me but the lyrics really point to circumstances we can all relate to,” commented the clearly passionate artist. “There’s a hard edge to it and it speaks to conviction and purpose. I’ve enjoyed hearing what others get from the lyrics, it’s been very powerful, with the rest of the album building off of this.”
Mike isn’t a stranger to experiencing a broad acknowledgment of his work both from the underground of serious music fans and even the mainstream of pop culture. His 2017 “My Dream My Fantasy” release was named “one of the top three albums of 2017” by Exclusive Magazine, which is no small feat. Big Bus Dream has been featured in MTV’s Pimp My Ride, Breaking Amish, WBTV documentaries, and the film My Life as Abraham Lincoln!
Big Bus Dream is looking forward to live performances as the nation shifts into post-pandemic mode, as well as more studio work. Expect the rest of 2021 to be strong for Mike Shannon and Big Bus Dream, after a hard year fans deserve nothing less.
