Ro Jordan delves on her creative tastes, musical influences & new single ‘Northern Lights’

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Ro Jordan, Singer-Songwriter, Artist & Producer from the City of Leicester.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Drawing inspirations from early 2000s Pop/R&B Artists that I would listen to on long car journeys, I found myself intoxicated with the musicality and individuality of the artists I would listen to on repeat. After watching musicians express themselves on stages that I would hope to perform on one day, it became an addictive lifestyle of learning how to converse through the language known as song, as well as it being an ultimate childhood dream to call it my career!
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
With my latest Pop/Soul Summer Anthem, ‘Northern Lights’, I tried to achieve an audibly cinematic experience for my listeners. I believe it reaches a new age of story-telling in songwriting, by creating this movie-esque romance etherial song, and as both the artist & producer, my hope is that it will completely encapsulates the listener, taking them on a cinematic journey.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
It is becoming of its own commercial genre, heart & soul are the only ingredients. Its creativity is divine intervention, breaking new dynamic sounds in the independent industry that are otherwise unexpected. I believe it to be quite powerful when an artist is in control of their music and truly wants nothing more than to connect with their fans through their creations! I tend to base my music genre on what mood it makes me feel in the moment of development, this particular single is triumphantly expressive and easy to listen to, so I would class it as Pop/Soul acoustic ballad.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
I take a lot of pride in the fact that I grew up in an era, when music was on the precipice of new ways of listening. I would listen to Lauryn Hill endlessly to study her poetic ways and reinventing classics. Then there’s Lady Gaga for her ways of being unapologetically outrageous with her whimsical talent. I believe that it would be remarkable if I could one day, when I have kids in the future, tell them a true story of how their mother had written & performed a song with Adele, though I don’t feel she needs any collaborative input, still one can dream right?!
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
I’d have to say that one time I performed in-front of 20,000 people at a festival in my hometown a few years back. Moments like that, an artist never forgets!
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
I like this question because I do have the most incredibly supportive family who recognize what my music means to me, though when I’m producing at early hours of the morning, I am sent a text telling me to keep it down! I get it, it’s understandable!
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Make the music you want to hear, not what you think others want to listen to.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
You lot are my friends, let’s get a drink and listen to songs together round a campfire sometime.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Big Ballads, think ‘Bond’, think epic. Enough said.
