Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Hello there, I am Samuel Mason from Terre Haute, IN

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

Music has always been in my family particularly with bluegrass/folk music. My great Uncle Mick is in the Bluegrass Hall of Fame. It was roughly around when I turned 16 I figured it was time to participate in the family business. I had a knack for playing guitar early on and it just felt right every time I picked around on my Fender six string. In high school I met my drummer Austin Sheese and we clicked instantly. We have been rehearsing as a band for a few years now and playing local shows in the Indiana area.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

Our new song Honey I’m Honest featuring our friend SHPSH (sheepish) is a slower indie pop tune that encompasses the difficulties of being honest with the people we love. The experience layered between each lyric tells my own struggle being honest with someone I loved and that stinging fear of hurting them. I just was not in the relationship emotionally anymore and deeply struggled coming to terms that it was over.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

I truly believe our music as a whole is always up for exploring new creative ideas and not sticking to one set sound. Currently our classified genre is Alternative Pop Rock.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

The artists we pull influences from include Cage the Elephant, FINNEAS, and Weezer. If there was a specific artist we could collab with on a future project it would have to be Jack White. He is extremely versatile in being genre fluid and is one of the hardest working musicians we know.

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

So far our greatest moment in the world of music has to be curating our first record “PHASES” released back in 2019. It was our first attempt at recording in a professional studio and allowing ourselves to experience the creative process that goes into making a record. We experimented primarily with rock, garage pop and grunge sounds that embellish what we feel is a solid pop rock record.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

To any aspiring artist out there. We would like to say keep creating what makes you happy. Don’t get caught up in who may or may not like your song. What matters is that YOU enjoy it. If you want to make Rap, Pop, Folk, EDM, or Rock go for it as long as you are truly doing the thing that makes you happy at the end of each day.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Finally our next step is releasing our second full length album entitled “Across the Cosmos” this Summer. It has a new batch of music flavors we hope all of our listeners enjoy.
