Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.

Thank you for having me on Xttrawave! My name is Joel Emanuele Zisa A.K.A. Jowes Jones, and I’m an independent music artist based in Turin, Italy.

What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?

If I should name a specific thing that brought me into making music, that thing would be my nature I guess, since my actual approach to life has always been emotional and creative. I always strived to rationally explain what made me choose this path, and now I’m understanding that I shouldn’t expalain that rationally considering that music speaks to emotions first and then to our mind when we try to understand it.

Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?

I just released my new single called “FAULT” produced by Holy Feiz. It’s an introspective song that tells about my most ambitious life goals, and some of the common goals that we music artists share as musicians. FAULT is a total act of will that looks like a bunch of whims because I wanted to let the egoistic flaws of the human nature to leak out, regarless of the legitimacy of every desire.

The real core of the song is the chorus, a corner where the artist questions the morality of the act of will, trying to understand at what point the act of will switches from legit to inmoral. The message may be slightly vague and I did it on purpose to allow whoever wanted to self interprate the song, that’s essential to me.

Next single is coming out on March 12th and is called “HIT THE GAS”. It will be available on Spotify and every other music streaming platforms.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

My music is generally a mix of hip hop/rap, trap and pop, but do what I like and I do what I feel to do so my music is aligned with the way I am and the way I see music: a direct way to connect with feelings. The simpler the delivery is without being too much predictable, the better it is to me. I like to write relatable and heartfelt lyrics that also open up to free interpratations for a better ingaging listening. My music is a mix of catchy melodies on energetic trap beats, at the moment all made by my producer and childhood friend Holy Feiz, but despite the heavy trap beats the vocals give anyway a general sense of melancholy in my music and some may also perceive a kind of bittersweet effect.

Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?

I mostly grew up listening to hip hop and urban-latin music because of my dominican origins, but I have always particularly been fan of music in general and I also grew up listening to genres that have nothing to do with hip hop and reggaeton like outlaw country, orchestral, metal and folk music, which also built Jowes Jones artistically. Clichés apart I always wanted to collaborate with Yelawolf, the most underrated artists in my opinion. I recall Marylin Manson being one of my nightmares when I was a kid. Now that I have grown up I got his philosophy, his art and he’s the most incredible character in the music Industry to me. The third one is Post Malone and the reason may sound weird: we share the same zodiac sign (Cancer). Apart jokes we’re similar in many aspects, we’re both nice and chill guys and I think collaborating with him would be just natural, enjoyable and.. just cool. But I’m a small artist and a small artist I would like to collaborate with is Elizy XO, I love her voice and I’ll probably go for a collaboration with her.. hopefully!

Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?

I started publishing my music in 2020 and in 2021 with Fault I started releasing music with some real marketing plans. So I don’t have any award yet but my final destination at the moment is a Grammy Award for sure! I’m not afraid to aim high.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?

Music comes first. I like to wake up early, earlier than everybody so I can be active and creative without any other distractions. Unfortunately I had to drastically cut a lot friendships and I kept the real and older ones because other friendships used to take me too much time and they would have never understood my purposes and the vision of my life. At the other hand I don’t have kids that take away most part of my free time, so my real engagement is the job, but doing my things in the morning and in my free time I don’t have any problem on managing the time.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

I would suggest aspiring musicians not to be afraid of dreaming big because they should set big goals. I would suggest to never quit once they have started, because it will be difficult but if they don’t stop at any difficulty found, the worst result will always be a result they would have never imagined they could have.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

A lot of new and interesting music is coming, and mostly I know that sounds super corny but I appreciate who is especially supporting me and my producer Holy Feiz now, in our beginnings and in our struggling.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?

Me and my producer Holy Feiz are always in the creative process but for this whole 2021 we have a bunch of ready songs to come out every 2nd friday of the month, so stay tune!
