Music Interview: T.E.E delves on his creative tastes, being influenced by Jay-Z & new album “Endangerment”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Thank you all for having me! My name is T.E.E and it stands for Tenacious Endangerment to Everything and I’m an Artist, Producer and Audio Engineer from Goldsboro, NC
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I’ve been around it my whole life. My Mom used to make music with a real dope collective of artists when I was growing up so I got to see people record and just bounce dope ideas off of each other and make timeless music. I didn’t know that I was destined for it until I was about 13 years old though. I would freestyle here and there but I wanted to learn how to write better. I wanted to make memorable music like the artists I grew up listening to.
Tell us about your new music? And what’s the story behind it?
My album Endangerment is my second album. I dropped Tenacious in 2018 and I was really proud of it. It’s a dope album but I felt like I could do better and make my music a little more personal. I used to have this wall that kept me from being so open with my audience and I wanted to showcase other skills beyond my ability to rap well. From going for what I want in life, to doubts I have about life to realizing my worth. I’m taking y’all on a journey through my thoughts and life.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
I’m not trying to sound like anyone. I feel like I sound like me and no one else does. I’ve been inspired by others for sure but I don’t let that overtake who I am as an artist nor my own creative process. My style is a mixture of being lyrical and lit I don’t make traditional hip-hop songs but I don’t make trap music either. I reside somewhere in between.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Oh absolutely. I listened to a lot of Jay-Z growing up and I found how he stayed relevant interesting and it really showed me that there could be longevity in hip-hop as well as being a successful businessman. As far as collaborations go I’d love to work with OutKast. Like I seriously hope they become a duo again even if it’s just to make a song with me haha.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
Honestly, of all of the accomplishments and feedback I’ve gotten over the years, knowing that Phil LaMarr knows who I am and has listened to my music is the best thing ever. It felt like I was famous already.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
I have my days planned out for the most part. I have days dedicated to music. Mostly on the weekends unless I’m really feeling something. I work throughout the week so I try to spend time with my family and my Girlfriend as much as I can. I’m lucky to have such understanding people in my life because whenever I do want to make music instead of going out or participating in an activity they’re always understanding.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Don’t come into music thinking anything is instant. You are going to struggle even when things are going well. Keep working and don’t lose focus. Surround yourself with people who have goals themselves and it is almost guaranteed to keep you motivated. Music can be a long and stressful journey, don’t let it drive you crazy.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
That I love every single one of them. I remember when I had no fans at all. I’m thankful for anyone that has given my music a chance.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
Right now just doing videos for the songs on the album. I’m looking getting some merch made as well since so many people are asking about it. I’m also looking to expand my producer credits this year too. I plan on being pretty busy all year music wise, but I will say that the wait for the next album won’t be long.
