Music Interview: Miles Newby on his creative tastes, musical influences & new album “Infatuated”

Great to have you on Xttrawave. Please, introduce yourself.
Aye what’s really good? Thanks for having me on Xttrawave. My name is Miles Newby, real name no gimmicks. I am originally from Long Island, New York but I stay moving around. Currently I hop between New York and Fort Lauderdale / Miami Florida.
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
I got into the game real young around the age 13. I remember getting my hands on a Mac Book and exploring the GarageBand program with my friends. It was in those young years of my life that I figured out I had some talents for recording and rapping. I used to hop around to my boys cribs with my mobile studio to set up and grind out recording sessions. Word spread and I began recording with more and more people from my hometown. Recording just became what I liked to do, I was really good at writing rhymes and began to develop my own flows. It’s something I just enjoy doing, and looking back and listening to something I made 10 years ago is priceless, every song has a story behind it, a deeper meaning. To me, making music is journaling my life, it’s something I will always do whether I blow up or not.
Tell us about your new Album. And what’s the story behind it?
This Album is big for me, 2020 was a crazy year for everybody, no doubt, for me it was about soul searching. Learning what the word “love” means to me and what it doesn’t. Times I been cheated, girls being deceitful and conniving, cold hearted, you know those mind games, back stabbing. Relationships can be crazy man, and in this day and age trust is something hard to come by. Are there any faithful women left? This is a story of love, of lust, of heart break, of insanity. Picking up the pieces, dusting them off and trying to figure out how it all fits back together. At the end of the day we are all broken, and that’s the beauty of it. Nobody’s perfect man, so we just keep on keeping on and let life move forward, I don’t know what tomorrow’s got coming, but I’ll tell you this. What if it’s better than you ever could have imagined?
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?
Sometimes I find it hard to stick my music in a genre, I guess that’s what makes my music unique. I really love finding new artists and hearing the music they first started sharing with the world. It has that pain, that emotion, you feel me? That rasppp. You can tell they were in the learning process. I don’t like when people compare music, like you sound like this or you sound like that. Yeah, maybe there are similarities but this is my voice, this is my mind, this is my art. This is my creation, my baby, that I… Me… I’m sharing with the world. Nobody is going to do a damn thing for you, do it yourself. If I didn’t write this album, If I didn’t record this album it wouldn’t be here, but I did. So sit down, listen and feel me in the room with you.
Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
My mom, straight up. She put me on to a lot of the music I listen to. She used to bump Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre when I was in diapers, I’m talking riding in car seats. Beastie Boys, Krs one. I remember one year for Christmas my mom got me this portable cd player, I carried that thing with me everywhere. That year my Mom’s brother held me down with some dope ass CDs. Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions was one, I kept that joint rockinn cover to cover. I’m real old school when it comes to hip hop and I think that shows in my music. I have a lot of influence outside of just hip hop, just about any genre from the 60s to early 2000s. Future Collabs I gotta say Russ & Scott Storch, 100.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Don’t ever stop, release everything. People love to watch the growth of an artist, that’s how they fall in love. Most important, Do Not Listen To The Haters. Oh, and don’t expect a lot of support from the people who know you in the beginning, but it’ll come around.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Follow your dreams, cliche but really, do it. Believe in yourself because if you don’t who will? I love you all, especially those of you that been riding with me from the start. I remember who was there and who wasn’t. Much LOVE!
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
I’ve got sooo much new music ready to push, working on some big plans. I’m more action than talk so just pull up follow me on social media and watch.
